HSBC banks on Aggreko for Temporary
Power
Aggreko, the global leader in temporary power and temperature
control solutions, has stepped in to help HSBC stay operational
after a series of regional power problems.
HSBC’s data centre in Salford, Manchester, was experiencing
difficulties during a period of power outages in the area during
early December. Carillion Facilities Management, which provides
facilities support services to selected sites of the international
bank, called upon Aggreko to bring in temporary generators.
Aggreko’s Manchester service centre supplied a super-quiet
125kVA generator with bulk tank, which enabled the data centre to
get up and running quickly, allowing it to remain fully operational
over the weekend when demand for its services was high.
Richard Hirst, Engineering Manager for Carillion Facilities
Management, said: “It was critical for HSBC to keep operational at
this busy time of year. With the power due to go off for two full
days, we needed to get a temporary arrangement in place fast.
“We work closely with Aggreko to provide contingency planning
for HSBC, so naturally we called upon them to help us find a
solution to the power outage problems that were taking place in the
area. The Manchester team reacted extremely swiftly, specifying
exactly what was needed and installing the equipment in double
quick time.”
Jeff Short, area sales manager for Aggreko, said: “Our
contingency work with Carillion has put us in a strong position to
react promptly to their needs as and when they arise and we were
glad to be able to come up with a solution to this emergency power
situation for HSBC.”
